1/13/10 General Meeting

GCSSA

MINUTES FOR

GENERAL MEETING ON JANUARY 13, 2010

The meeting was called to order at 6:02 P. M.  Board members present were Anderson, Wilson, Cochran, Pryor, Lane and Eacobacci.  Other members present were Swarthout, Garrison, Inman, Kerns, Heyfron, Crider, Lovas, Reinhardt, Stillwell, Holland, Brock, Kasparian, Edgman, Kirkley, Seman, Scott and Cordery.

After removing “not” from the fourth sentence of paragraph seven, the minutes for the December 9, 2009 meeting were approved.

Bill Wilson received a $100 mail in donation, keeping our balance at about $5800.00.

Anderson and Pryor had no new information on the “Pack Tournament Date”, meaning at this time GCSSA will not be running the program.  Member Kirkley stated that our league is not bound to run an approved senior softball or other association tourney and that GCSSA could do a tourney at any time using a GCSSA format.

Heyfron had no new info on the Rules for 2010 and restated that the Board had eliminated the grandfathered bats last year and he was hoping to continue the grandfather bats with his previous proposal.  More effort will be used in order to have a set of rules ready for the 2010 season.

Swarthout advised the members that his best deal for a defibrillator was through senior softball and would cost about $1100 after tax and shipping.  Garrison indicated that the Police, Fire and Safety council might be in a position to help on cost.  Garrison will try to make a contact and let the Board know if the council will contribute.  The members approved a motion to buy a defibrillator with a spending cap of $1100.00.

In line with the defibrillator purchase, Swarthout advised that members need to attend first aid classes and get certified in CPR, first aid and use of the Defibrillator.  Cochran is working with a group and will keep us informed about available classes.

Anderson was able to get Dick Scott to replace the vacant board position.  Anderson also had John Stillwell ready to step in if no other member volunteered.  Anderson thanked both members for stepping up to help.  Dick Scott will replace Larry Edgerton who is moving out of the area.

Swarthout is working on a “Volunteer Program” which would appoint up to five (5) members to head up separate maintenance functions.  The program would require logging of hours by individual for various uses in the future.  Bob felt that the volunteer program in 2009 came up short.

Swarthout is also working with the Western Gateway Park Board to develop a list of Park projects and needs so that the senior softball members can help out when possible.

Eacobacci pointed out that many volunteers had worked on Turf cutting, aeration, infield preparation, weed control and foul & 160 foot arc line delineation and was pleased with the level of volunteer help in 2009.

Dave Anderson advised us that Phil Calkins cannot umpire in 2010, that Kerry, the Cooks and Chuck would continue with scoring.  Dave is working to fill the Umpire needs.  Dave stated the league is going to 12 teams in 2010 and that sponsors are available for the 12 teams.  It looks like we will need two managers to fill out the 12 teams for 2010.  As one of the Saturday sponsors (Players Pizza) is moving to week day, we will need one more sponsor for the Saturday league.  Softballs for 2010 are in and will be in our possession soon.  Dave and his wife are working to insert grommets in the screens for a second tier above the first level.  These screens are much appreciated by the players.

A spring clean up will be scheduled again this year.  Fees not firmly set but to be about the same as last year.  The Saturday league will have same number of games in the schedule (36 games total, each team playing 24 games).

Eacobacci will seek some help to reset the bases on field 3 before the season begins.  Why is GCSSA putting effort on field 3?  The tournaments contribute some funds for our efforts, GCSSA uses field 3 for practice and we hope to have little league contribute some funds for our effort.  If for no other reason we are doing it for good will within the entire ball field community.

Garrison stated the little league most likely will give up on the light system they have in inventory because it does not meet little league standards.  He is suggesting GCSSA may be able to buy the system for about $2000 and have it available for use on field 1 or 2.  Full installation will require power and base construction.  The exact cost is not known but the purchase of the hardware will reduce the cost considerably.

Western Gateway Park Master plan is moving forward but not as streamlined as indicated a month earlier.  The County has not lessened the requirements but supervisor, Hank Weston, is trying hard to eliminate or defer certain requirements.  Bruce Reinhardt will complete the Biological inventory for the Master Plan.  Richard Eacobacci is doing the site plan and other items for the Master Plan.

Cochran and other board members ask that all members remember the registration cutoff date of March 20, 2010 and to remind other members.  Remember the last day to sign up and get on the draft for 2010 season play is March 20, 2010.  If we have to say it over and over, the last day for sign ups is March 20, 2010.

The members present were reminded about the League fund raiser which would be used for a variety of uses such as a scholarship fund, heavy maintenance items, defibrillator purchase, or night lighting.  A hat was passed and the members came up with $132.00.  Thank you.

The next Board meeting was set for February 10, 2010.  The meeting will be at Players Pizza and will start at 6:00 PM.

Meeting adjourned at 7:00 PM

After the membership meeting the board discussed the 2010 registration form.  Fees for week day play will be $140.  Fee for Saturday play will be $105.  If you play both, the fee is $220.  Scholarship voluntary contribution is changed to a multifunctional fund.  And deadline for sign up is March 20, 2010.
