GOLD COUNTRY
SENIOR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION
Minutes, June
3, 2009
FINAL
- Board meeting called to order at 6:35 pm at Players
Pizza, Penn Valley.
- Members present: Anderson, Wilson, Eacobacci, Cochran,
Silveria
- Guests present: Frank Kasparian, Don Heyfron, Larry
Kaufman
- The minutes of the May 13, 2009 Board Meeting were
approved as amended.
- Treasurers Report: Bill Wilson stated we had $20,434.00
in our account.
- Steve Cochran is working on creating the ballots for the
All-Star Game that will show team players and their ages for voting purposes.
He has determined that one half the leagues players are 50 – 60 years of age
and the other half is 61+ years of age. With this information the 2 divisions
for the All-Star game will be a 50-60 year old class and 61+ year old class.
There will be 12 players on each of the 4 All-Star teams. Each team will
choose 2 players from each age class and the Saturday managers will choose 3
players for the All-Star teams. The other 5 players will be selected by the
board to fill out the rosters as necessary. The selection of managers for the
teams was discussed. The league would like to involve more non-All Star
players to participate in the event as Managers or Asst. Managers who could
also be base coaches. Managers should receive ballots by June 8th
and are asked to return them to Steve by June 15th. The board will
tally the results at their June 17th board meeting. Steve will
work with Jim Keck in planning the game. A big thanks to Larry Kaufman for
generously contributing $145.00 to Touchdown Productions to film one of the
All-Star Games. We still need another $145.00 contribution to pay for the
other game.
- Don Heyfron and Frank Kasparian of the rules committee
made the following recommendation to the board. To reinstate substitute
player language that was inadvertently omitted when the substitute rules were
changed prior to the season beginning. The change is in II C 4 j which
will read: “If substitute players, qualified to play pursuant to these rules,
are available to play a team does not have the right to reject the
player(s) and to play with fewer than 10 players. Such rejection shall
be deemed a “forfeit” and entered into the scorebooks accordingly.
- League rules state players in the 65 + age range are
allowed to use a Miken Ultra II bat. Players 70+ years of age are identified
by a logo on their left sleeve. The board discussed the need to establish a
method by which players 65 – 69 years of age are physically identified as
being of age to use the Miken Ultra II bat. This would allow defensive
players to easily identify and adjust to these players. This will be a change
for next season. Currently umpires and score keepers will be given a list of
the players that can legally use this bat. If a question comes up during the
game it can be verified on the spot.
- The league still needs to get out a Newsletter to
players soon! Included will be recognition of our generous sponsors.
- Next meeting Wednesday, June 17, 2009 6:30 pm Players
Pizza, Penn Valley.
