SENIOR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION
Minutes, March 11,
2009
- Board Meeting called to order at 6:55
pm at Players Pizza, Penn Valley.
- Members present: Anderson, Wilson,
Eacobacci, Pryor, Cochran , Silveria
- Guests present: Bill Howland, Randy
Kephart
- Treasurer Bill Wilson stated we had
$8000.00 in our account.
- Insurance update was tabled till the
next meeting on March 24th.
- Bill informed the board that 43
players had sent in applications for the 2009 season to date. He also stated
there were 7 total rookies at the Saturday practices, with 3 of them looking
to play only on Saturdays.
- Randy Kephart received a bill from
the state regarding our non-profit obligation and gave it to Bill Wilson for
followup.
- The Rules Committee will meet on
Tuesday, March 17, 2009, 6:00 pm at Players Pizza, Penn Valley. Several
players, and umpires have made several suggestions to the committee for
consideration. Committee members are Frank Kasparian, Myron Prychun, Rich
Ramirez, Bill Howland, and Don Heyfron.
- We currently have the following teams
and managers set for the 2009 season.
Pryor Construction, Myron Prychun
mgr., PV Mini Storage, George Woodle mgr., Stucki Jewelers, Steve Mason mgr.,
Meyers Investment Group, Bill Howland mgr., The Union, Jeff Ackerman mgr., Taco
Shell, Rich Ramirez mgr., Tax Dodgers, Don Heyfron mgr., Tripps Auto Body, need
mgr., State Farm Insurance, need mgr., and we are confirming Hills Flat Lumber
as a sponsor, Randy Kephart mgr.. Bruce Reinhardt, Jeff Rice and Rick Miner
have shown interest in managing a team and could fill the vacancies noted above.
Saturday teams are currently Grass
Valley Glass, Bill Johnson mgr. and Players Pizza, George Woodle mgr.. We would
need to find a sponsor and manager in the event enough players sign up to create
a third team.
- A Meeting of Managers has been
scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2009, 12 noon, at Field 2 Western Gateway
Park. Managers will learn what the draft order will be for the draft, and
rank themselves and their designate or sponsor players for the draft. An
alphabetical listing of players will be provided to managers also showing
dates players cannot play during the season.
- The League Draft TIME and LOCATION
have been changed. The draft will now be held Sunday, March 29, 2009,
5:30 pm at Players Pizza in Penn Valley.
- Umpires for this season were
discussed. Rich Ramirez will officiate on Saturdays using Rick Miner as a
backup. Jack Bacon is the only full time umpire at this time for weeknight
play. Player / Umpires discussed were Jim Tetzlaff, Merle Hackett, Bill
Howland, and Jim Inman. Since the meeting Dave is looking for another full
time umpire to cover weeknight games and help alleviate scheduling conflicts
with player / umpires. George Calkins will be contacted as well as others.
- The board wants to determine who has
and who should have keys for the storage sheds at the park.
- Scorekeeping was discussed at the
meeting. Rich Eacobacci will score and provide statistics for all Saturday
games utilizing an electronic scoring unit. Karri will be a full time
scorekeeper again this season. Since the meeting the option of
scorekeeping and pay level was discussed with Debbie Burnett. An agreement
was not reached and she has declined to take the position this year. A search
for another scorekeeper and statistician is currently underway.

Wednesday, April 1, 2009, 6:30 pm, Players Pizza in Penn Valley.
- Meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm.
