   Announcements and News

All three ball fields at Western Gateway Park will be closed from 9-13 to 10-01 to get rid of the gophers and renovate fields.  The Park Board has budgeted $35,000 for these activities.    If players want to use Condon park for Batting Practice, contact Jules for the schedule and times.  Volunteers are still needed to help rake gopher holes on Saturday the 13th (start at 8:00 am).

Tack Room wins Post-Season Tournament by defeating Stucki Jewelers in Game 18.  As Tack Room was undefeated in the tournament, a Game 19 was not necessary.  Click here to see the tournament bracket and  results.

Memorial Service and Pot Luck for Steve Burdette to be held Saturday September 6, 1:00 pm, at the ball field.  Barbecue meat will be supplied.  Donations will be accepted and appreciated to help Steve's family.  Anyone not attending the service, but interested in donating,  please contact Dave Anderson. 

Very sad and shocking news.   Steve Burdette, manager of the Grass Valley Glass team, died of a heart attack on Sunday Aug. 24.  Steve had been enjoying a very successful year as a player and manager, with his Saturday team in first place, and his personal stats among the league leaders.  Seemingly in very good health, he had played on Saturday the 23rd.  He was 59.

Nominations are now open for three GCSSA board positions. The nomination sign up is posted on the bulletin board at field #2. Please sign up if you are interested in being a key player in keeping this great league going for another year.

Congratulations to The Tack Room team for winning the 2008 Regular Season Championship with a record of 27- 8- 1.

Rule changes have been made to specify that there is a double elimination tournament this year, but no regular season playoff.   Click here to go to the rules page.

Batting Practice times are now 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM (two groups)  Tuesdays and Thursdays at Western Gateway Park.

The Saturday League schedule has been changed.   Games on 6/14 and 7/19 have been moved to 8/30 and 9/6 due to scheduled tournaments.  For an updated schedule  Click here.

Volunteers are needed to help with maintenance and small projects at the balls fields at Western Gateway Park.  The park is not funded for all the maintenance work that needs to be done and as a result volunteers are needed.  Bob Swarthout has volunteered to organize the volunteers and see that we get and keep our ball fields in the best shape we can get them in.

New Board seated for 2008 season.  Bruce Reinhardt  elected  Board president.    Other officers are the following:  Vice President - Gary Silveria;   Secretary - Bill Wilson;  Treasurer - Frank Kasparian;  Sgt. at Arms - Jerry Furman;  Asst. Secretary - Richard Eacobacci;  and Asst. Treasurer - Grant Montgomery.
