11/04/09 General Meeting

GCSSA

MINUTES FOR

GENERAL MEETING ON NOVEMBER 4, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 6:03 P. M.  Board members present were Anderson, Edgerton, Wilson, Cochran, Pryor, Lane and Eacobacci.  Other members present were Swarthout, Garrison, Liebke, Inman Kerns, Kephart, Heyfron, Hackett, Crider, House, Lovas, Chatigny, Reinhardt, Stillwell, Howland and Silveria.

Anderson thanked the members for coming to the meeting and for having a good season.  Anderson thanked the old board and departing member Gary Silveria for participating in the management of the 2009 league season.

Anderson handed out the remaining team plaques to Don Pryor and Don Heyfron for Pryor Construction and Tax Dodgers.  After the meeting he gave the Menig Weed Control plaque to Gary Silveria who will deliver to the owner.

The Bylaws changes that were introduce at the last general meeting were brought to a vote after a brief discussion.  All proposed change were moved, seconded and approved.  The changes corrected two typographic errors and adjusted the verbiage for the rules committee make-up.

The question of how many members were needed to make a quorum for voting was raised.  The actual numbers of members present at a general meeting constitute a quorum (except that an absolute minimum of four board members) and to pass a motion a simple majority of the members present or 2/3 for a bylaw change is required.  See Article V, Section 3 of bylaws.

The topic of the number of teams for the 2010 season was discussed.  Several members provided opinions on the topic, after which a committee of eight members was selected.  The members selected were Don Pryor as Chair along with Randy Kebhart, Jules Liebke, John Stillwell, Don Lovas, Chamba Lane, Dan House and Richard Eacobacci.

A discussion on legal bats led to a review of the written suggestion by the Rules Committee, which was submitted at a previous meeting.  A motion was made, seconded and passed to accept and use the written recommendation.

Bill Wilson reported that the League had $5834 in the bank with all bills as of this date paid.

The minutes for the Board meeting of September 9, 2009 were approved as prepared.

A member suggested a budget be approved for the newly formed committee but was not considered necessary as legitimate expenses are normally covered.

A member asked how many members responded to the last poll.  Members were e-mailed or regular mailed and asked for input.  Forty-one e-mail and one regular mail responses were received.

Bob Swarthout reminded the members to advise him of equipment and field deficiencies so that repairs can be made in a timely manner.

A discussion about additional infield work indicates that the Park is working with Bob Swarthout in order to recondition the infield dirt.  The specific proposal is to mix the top several inches of infield dirt, grade and compact to secure a more stable footing.

A member asked about the program that proposed to sell advertisement space and place them on the fences.  The plan is still on the table and will be implemented for next season.

A member asked about a tournament to be sponsored by GCSSA.  No firm decision has been made.  Don Pryor will discuss with Jim Pack and find out if GCSSA will take over his tournament date.

The general membership was dismissed at about 7:30 PM and the new Board convened.

The new board will continue with the same titles.  Edgerton will take over the task of Gary Silveria.

Anderson will order 16 dozen balls for next year now in order to save on shipping cost.  Anderson will check with last year’s umpires and score keepers and others to see if they plan to return or are available for next year.  Wilson will check with the Cooks (Tamara & Naomi) to see if they would be available for next year.

The need to repair the score boards was noted.   Larry Edgerton will do statistics next year.

The next Board meeting was set for December 2, 2009.  Meeting to be at the Wilson residence and to start at 6:00 PM.

Meeting adjourned at 7:57 PM
